What We Know About Marine Reserves in Oregon's Territorial Sea:
The health of the ocean, in general, is greatly impacted by man. Some argue that Oregon's ocean fares much better than other places, however, if we want to keep it that way we must continue to think forward, adapting to the constant changing conditions.

As many fishermen know, supplementing a fishery has proven beneficial in many cases. Case in point - salmon, trout and steelhead hatcheries. Here in Oregon we have, while just as controversial, a multitude of hatcheries that contribute to our recreational and economic benefit. When you think about it, a marine reserve is nothing more than a fish hatchery in the ocean. Certainly, there will be a loss of areas we may have previously fished, however, the advantages are numerous as they don't require the many volunteers hours we spend to keep hatcheries operational. Likewise, the issues of managed flows of clean water, electricity to maintain correct temperatures, feed costs and the many other resources that enable them to provide those benefits are no longer of concern. In perspective, a marine reserve or protected area is the ideal hatchery model that just about any fisherman should be able to support.

As we've been told, the decision is no longer "IF" but where and how many. The goal of this page is to provide you with background, facts and to dispel myths created by politicians, extremists and debunked science. We encourage you to stay abreast as, no matter where you live in Oregon - This Affects You Today!
