Learn the River
Association members have always been
fascinated about the rivers that host that best
fisheries in the Northwest.
Learning to respect the power of the liquid
highway for coldwater fisheries is
essential. The biggest rapids with the
most thrills are always popular while moderate
whitewater offers a well balanced trip
especially when paired with sections
noted for their tranquility and small riffles.
River wildlife is exceptional on
most rivers frequented by Northwest
Steelheaders. Participating in an Association
chapter float will yield post trip wildlife
tales of glorious sightings of eagles, osprey,
herons and red tailed hawks roosting in their
lookouts and nests. Deer, elk, beaver and mink
are common sightings on many Oregon rivers
along with ducks, geese, coyotes and
raccoons.
Learning the lay of the
land and the river is perhaps the most
interesting reason for people to enjoy the
river. Contacting an Association of Northwest
Steelheader Chapter (click on Chapter
News) will lead to information on current
fishing events and clinics as well as
recommendations on river guides within their
chapter that would be willing to make a river
drift or fishing trip one of your fondest
memories.
