The Tualatin Chapter’s first fish along of the fishing year (August through June) was at the mouth of the Sandy River on the Columbia. Ron Ems managed to pick up one of these bright fish using a chareese hot shot (see below). As you can see it was a nice day, no rain coat needed.
As many of you know the sunny weather is gone and the rivers are brown flowing fast. Each year we lose one of our brothers to hypothermia or drowning. They say sportsman don’t like to wear life jackets because we are tough, and life jackets are for people that don't swim. I can tell you from experience when you fall in the water, or sink a boat things happen fast and nobody is strong enough to swim out of fast water, or tough enough not to get hypothermia.
Our 7:00 pm meeting on November 18th will focus on safety and things you can do to better your odds at living through an accident on the river. It will also cover who has been fishing, fishing prospects for November and December, and ways we can influence the politicians to vote our way for more fish, more river access and less sea lions.
For those of you who can get out, this a magical time in Tillamook with Chinook in the Wilson, Kilchis, and Miami.
Mark Hutchison, Tualatin Valley Chapter President
